My Japanese mama-san turned 61 recently! I must say, she's an angel in disguise. I met her three months after my big move to Japan five years ago. Since then, we’ve been two peas in a pod while taking care of each other through small acts of kindness. One day she showed me a picture of her mother and explained how she was a florist whose arrangements had been featured in the emperor’s palace. I shared that my mother had transitioned and she responded pointing to herself, “Japanese mama-San,” as to say not to worry, I’ll take care of you. Most nights, we enjoy cups of tea, laughter, and convos using Google Translate. Her small acts of kindness has made a big impact in my life. Forever grateful.
